Sim Local named Brazil’s top eSIM provider as tourism revenue to the country reaches 15 year high

By February 8, 2025

Brazil’s popularity with international tourists continues to grow, with travelers bringing in $7.341 billion USD to the country.

According to a report from the Ministry of Tourism, this was the largest amount in 15 years, and represented a 6.28% increase compared to the prior year.

Brazil has long been a popular tourist destination thanks to its diversity of attractions on offer, from thriving cities and iconic beach culture to its peaceful and pristine nature.

Its annual Rio de Janeiro Carnival is a world-famous event, with the city preparing to host more than one million visitors during the February 28th to March 8th festivities.

According to Celso Sabino, Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, the country’s popularity in recent years is thanks in part to an ambitious government strategy called the National Tourism Plan, which aims to consolidate Brazil as the leading tourist destination in South America.

This past year four states drew in the vast majority of tourists, with São Paulo topping the list with 2.2 million tourists, followed by Rio de Janeiro (1.5 million), Paraná (894,536) and Rio Grande do Sul (879,412).

One thing that can’t be denied as the number of tourists to Brazil continues to grow: this travel in the country requires mobile connectivity.

High-speed mobile connectivity for international tourists

As the largest economy in South America, Brazil has a well-developed telecom infrastructure with good mobile internet coverage. This has been reinforced over the years with continued investments in order to improve 5G coverage, as demonstrated by global comms tech provider TIM Brasil’s new partnership with Nokia that expands 5G network coverage across 15 Brazilian states.

While this is great news for the country and residents, international tourists also need to be able to access these improved networks.

Today, more than ever before, mobile connectivity is an integral part of the travel experience. Three days in an international city without connectivity makes navigating to the hotel, booking taxis or visiting tourist attractions a tough and potentially stressful experience.

A Brazilian tax number, known as a CPF, is normally needed to buy a prepaid, local sim card in Brazil. Although there are some travel sim cards aimed at tourists, these may not always offer the best value for data and minutes. Further, language barriers frequently add to the challenge for tourists trying to understand prices and terms of the local sim cards on offer.

This is where eSIMs enter the picture.

With eSIM technology the millions of international tourists heading to Brazil each year can arrange a pre-paid digital SIM card in advance or upon arrival. This removes the hassle of trying to organize a local SIM card on arrival and ensures tourists have no loss in connectivity that could mar their experiences.

Brazil’s Top eSIM Provider

Brazil Reports has announced that it’s named Sim Local as the top eSIM provider in Brazil.

With access to local networks in each destination and support when tourists need it most, Sim Local ensures that travelers stay connected on whatever adventure they are on.

The company, founded by Killian Whelan in 2010, has long held a reputation for being the world’s leading eSIM provider. In part, this is because the company brings trusted big-name brands to the world of eSIM, providing travelers with access to reliable options when choosing a plan.

With 4G and 5G speeds, travelers can enjoy fast, frustration-free coverage while managing bookings on the go and sharing moments in real time.

For Brazil, the availability of Sim Local and its eSIM offering means that the rising number of international travelers can enjoy uninterrupted mobile connectivity from the moment they touch down and throughout the duration of their stay.

With flexible options, reliable service and great value for money, Sim Local is the ideal choice for international tourists planning to visit Brazil in 2025.
