Medellín, Colombia — After hours of silence, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), which is led by allies of President Nicolás Maduro, announced in the early hours of Monday, July 29, that Maduro won elections and will serve another six-year term.

The results will almost certainly be disputed by the opposition. It’s candidate just minutes before the CNE’s announcement wrote on X, “The results are undeniable. The country has chosen a peaceful change.”

International election observers were present on Sunday, including from the Carter Center and the United Nations.
